We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Vehicle and Plant Technician to join our Facilities team.
The Role
Working as part of our skilled Facilities team, the Vehicle and Plant Technician will provide technical expertise needed to plan, oversee and carry out the maintenance on a small fleet of vehicles, plant and trailers, as well as a variety of plant machinery such as chainsaws, generators and mowers.
As a Vehicle and Plant Technician, you will:
- Oversee and plan the annual maintenance and upkeep of small fleet of vehicles, plant and trailers, as well as a variety of plant machinery such as chainsaws, generators and mowers.
- Provide the technical expertise performing routine maintenance (oil changes, brake repairs, etc.), diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems on various vehicles and plant.
- Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential issues and ensure vehicles, plant and machinery are safe, roadworthy and compliant.
- Identify and resolve complex mechanical issues, using diagnostic tools and systems.
- Replace or repair defective parts on vehicles, plant and machinery.
- Carry out tests and checks in preparation for MOT’s.
- Maintain a due diligence in terms of your own personal health and safety and for those around you.
- Maintain the standards of the team and strive to improve within your capability.
- Achieve personal targets and make efficient use of time and material resources.
- Be part of the team and contribute proactively within your capabilities.
The Package
- Hours of work are 40 per week, working predominantly 07:30 – 16:10, Monday to Friday. Working rostered weekends to support the operations of the Zoo.
- Permanent contract
- Salary from ÂŁ30,000 – ÂŁ31,929 per annum (pro-rata)
- 33 days annual leave per calendar year (pro-rata)

Our Requirements
- Ability to plan, coordinate and repair a wide range of fleet and machinery.
- Broad technical knowledge of mechanical principles for vehicle and plant, machinery, systems, components, and maintenance procedures.
- Knowledge of legislative requirements with regards to Mechanical upkeep of vehicle and plant.
- Knowledge of legislative requirements with regards to LOLER & PUWER.
- Experience in repairing small plant such as chainsaws, generators and mowers etc.
- Fabrication, vehicle electrical and welding knowledge would be beneficial but not crucial.
- To have the ability to solve problems and adhere to H&S guidelines.
- To be self-motivated, resourceful, flexible and have a willingness to learn.
- Communicate effectively with customers regarding repairs and maintenance statuses.
- Capable of working as part of a team.
- Be courteous and respectful within a busy, public facing organisation.
- Have good communication skills.
