POSITION PURPOSE

The Evening School/Night School Teacher provides academic instruction and supervision to students enrolled in the district's evening or credit recovery program. The teacher supports students who require additional time and alternative scheduling to complete coursework, recover credits, or improve academic performance toward graduation requirements. The Evening School Teacher creates a structured, safe, and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement, accountability, and academic success. The teacher collaborates with school administrators, counselors, and pupil services staff to support students' academic progress and positive behaviour while ensuring alignment with district curriculum and graduation requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provide direct and hybrid academic instruction to students enrolled in the Evening School/Night School program.
• Facilitate credit recovery, remediation, and academic support to help students meet graduation requirements.
• Implement curriculum and instructional materials aligned with course objectives and learning standards.
• Maintain a structured and positive learning environment that promotes student engagement and minimizes disruptions.
• Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress throughout the program.
• Monitor, grade, and provide feedback to students for in-class and asynchronous work within 48 hours of submission.
• Provide individualized support and feedback to students to promote successful course completion.
• Demonstrated ability to improve academic performance of students who may be struggling academically.
• Communicate with students, parents, school counselors, administrators, and pupil services staff regarding student progress and concerns.
• Utilize appropriate behaviour management strategies to maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.
• Encourage students to develop responsibility, time management, and positive study habits.
• Maintain accurate records including grades, assignments, and progress reports in accordance with district policies.
• Participate in program meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
• Follow all district policies regarding student confidentiality, professional conduct, and safety procedures.
• Demonstrate satisfactory attendance and availability during the program hours of operation.
• Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, and transitions within the evening program.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator, Principal, or Director of Pupil Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based on learning style.
• Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
• Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
• Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
• Ability to develop and implement projects.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contracted in the course of work.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS

Work in standard office and school building environments.

EQUIPMENT

Use of standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, and telephone.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE

• Valid PA Teaching Certificate necessary to provide instruction to Grade 9-12 students in required subjects of ELA, Math, Science, or Social Studies.
• Basic typing abilities, basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, e-mail).
• One (1) to three (3) years of successful experience working with students toward achieving measurable outcomes related to attendance, academic achievement, and behaviour.
• Demonstrated experience in conducting small group or individual sessions, preferably with diverse populations and various age groups.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish a therapeutic alliance with clients.
• Empathy, patience, and the ability to maintain a non-judgmental and supportive attitude toward students.
• Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and technology skills.
• Resourceful and self-motivated.
• Ability to work in a team environment and work under stress.
• Ability to work effectively with people and be able to supervise others.
• Ability to do job responsibilities with minimal supervision and ability to schedule time to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work during program hours.
• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

$35.00/hour. This is a grant-funded position; continuation of the program is based on performance review and availability of funds.
