About Chester Race Company
Chester Race Company Ltd is one of the North West’s best-known and most-admired brands. It is an evolving organisation with a broad portfolio but retaining Horseracing at its core. The Company operates three racecourses, Chester, Bangor-on‑Dee and Musselburgh, in Scotland. At Chester, we also own and operate a hotel, a vibrant pub and have other property interests in the city. Not to mention our in‑house caterers, Horseradish and our staffing brand – Thyme People. With that much diversity in our business, no two days are the same.
General responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional wine service during race days in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Engage guests with a confident, personable, and energetic approach
- Provide expert wine recommendations based on guest preferences, menu pairings, and occasion
- Drive revenue through upselling premium wines, champagnes, and curated pairings
- Maintain awareness of table status and service timing
- Collaborate with floor staff, kitchen, and management to ensure seamless service delivery
- Uphold high standards of wine presentation, including correct serving techniques, glassware, and temperature control
- Stay up to date with wine lists, vintages, and product knowledge
- Support the wider team and contribute to a positive working environment during busy service periods
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous experience in a sommelier or premium hospitality role
- Strong wine knowledge and a genuine passion for hospitality
- A confident communicator with a vibrant, engaging personality
- A commercial mindset with the ability to upsell effectively
- Ability to stay calm and efficient in a high-pressure, fast-paced setting
- A team player with a proactive, hands-on approach
Pay: Competitive day rate (dependent on experience)
