Job Summary: The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists the Certified School Nurse (CSN) and the School Nurse in providing care to students and staff members of schools. He/She assists with the care of students who require medical attention when they are injured or suffer from acute illness. Their tasks include assisting in treating patients, referring them to other care providers, and interacting with parents of patients when needed or when appropriate. During periods when students are exposed to communicable diseases, they assist in immunization or exclusion measures.

Essential Functions:

  • Delivers First Aid to students
  • Assists the CSN with organizing and maintaining the health room
  • Assists the CSN with updating files
  • Assists the CSN with immunization record updates
  • Assists the CSN with student physical records
  • Assists the CSN with student dental records
  • Assists the CSN with completing student screenings
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum High School Diploma, a degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing preferred (B.S.)
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check Clearance
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
  • FBI Criminal Background Clearance

Certifications:

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Demonstrated Knowledge of:

  • CPR/AED requirements and administration
  • Child Abuse Laws
  • Pennsylvania School Code
  • Pennsylvania Department of Health and Regulations
  • Pennsylvania Division of School Health Guidelines

Demonstrated Ability to:

  • Assist in the overseeing of mandated screenings and complete referrals and follow-up where applicable
  • Assist in managing and controlling acute chronic disease
  • Assist in providing first aid for illness or injury to students and document nursing assessment, diagnosis and treatment
  • Assist in promoting good safety practices, both within and outside of the school building
