The role focuses on preventing and addressing anti-social behaviour (ASB) and environmental crime across the borough through proactive, intelligence-led patrols, engagement with local communities, and the effective use of enforcement powers where appropriate. CSWs play a key role in tackling issues early, providing reassurance to residents, and helping to reduce harm.

In addition to patrol duties, CSWs investigate reports of ASB and environmental offences, gathering evidence from a range of sources, and work with colleagues and partner agencies to identify and deliver solutions. This is a varied and rewarding role for individuals who are passionate about community safety, confident in dealing with challenging situations, and committed to making a positive difference to the lives of local people.

This position is ideally suited to applicants seeking an interesting, challenging and diverse role within the Council's Community Safety team. Cheshire West and Chester Council brings a fresh and energetic approach to providing top quality services for its many customers and communities. The Community Safety Team is currently recruiting for three Community Safety Wardens to join the team. Community Safety Wardens deliver a professional and effective uniformed service working with local communities, elected members, and colleagues from across the council, police, and other partner agencies to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour (ASB). The post holders will be based in Chester and will be required to travel to other locations across the borough when necessary to meet operational requirements.

The role involves foot patrols, providing effective enforcement for ASB and other relevant offences such as breaches of Public Space Protection Orders, littering, smoking in enclosed spaces and dog fouling, and engaging with local communities and businesses to make public spaces cleaner and safer. The postholder will work within a shift pattern as part of a rota, including evening and weekend working. The position is subject to successful level 2 Police Vetting.

Reporting to the Community Safety Supervisor, you will play an essential role in delivering our service priorities. You will need to be an enthusiastic, conscientious and resilient individual who wants the best for communities in the borough.

The successful candidates will benefit from:

  • Working within a supportive and team orientated work environment
  • Between 26 and 31 days annual leave per year (linked to length of service) plus bank holidays with an option to purchase up to a maximum of 10 extra days.
  • Local Government pension scheme (via Cheshire Pension Fund)
  • Commitment and continued support for technical and professional development.
  • An excellent salary sacrifice car lease scheme with fuel only on costs.
  • Access to working rewards including childcare, cycle scheme, holiday plus, technology scheme, health line plus, work fit gym scheme and a host of other local discounts.
