Working within the Cheshire West and Chester Street Lighting and Traffic Signal team the successful candidate will provide technical expertise and contribute to delivering services specific to Street Lighting Design.
The Post holder will ensure effective, efficient and safe delivery of the service for users and the people of Cheshire West & Chester in accordance with Council policies, procedures and resources.
As a vital member of the team, you will work as part of a professional, responsive and dedicated team which undertakes a wide range of tasks. The role will require the use of your knowledge, judgement and initiative whilst being supported by the wider team.
The role of Principal Street Lighting Engineer will lead on the Technical Design of new Street Lighting schemes along with undertaking Design checks and management of internal and external Street Lighting works. The successful candidate will respond to Street Lighting design queries, and manage the delivery of Capital Street Lighting Schemes.
Typical Duties include
- Carrying out designs, inspections, analyse engineering problems, apply technical expertise and engineering judgment and produce innovative solutions through the use of complex interactive computer systems (e.g. Lighting Reality and AutoCAD).
- Manage wide ranging works and activities on the public highway, including liaising with and supervising developers/contractors during the construction of new infrastructure to be adopted as part of the highway network.
- Deal with correspondence and telephone enquiries and consult with statutory undertakers, District and Parish councils, other Services and units of the Service.
- Assist the Team Leader for Street Lighting and Traffic Signals in controlling, monitoring and maximising budgets to ensure the cost effective efficient and economical management of the work programme. To plan and manage scheme delivery and proactively monitor the overall progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective procedures.
- Contribute to the continued development of the specific Service area through the direct management and training of staff including the identification, planning and allocation of tasks/duties together with assisting in the personal development of these staff.
