Key Stage Two Teaching Assistant Contract Type – SCP 6 £13.47 per hour, Term Time only, Permanent. Hours 32.5 (8:30am until 3.15pm Monday to Friday (30 min lunch)).

Oak View Academy are looking to appoint a compassionate and patient teaching assistant, to start in September 2026, to provide learning support to pupils with additional needs. We are looking for a Level 3 qualified teaching assistant to join our team. Hours of work will be 08:30 to 15:30 with 30 minutes for lunch, working Monday to Friday term time plus 6 INSET days per year.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be involved in supporting class teachers, 1:1 work and small groups of pupils with additional needs. They will also be able to deliver appropriate intervention programmes to individuals and groups. We would like a dynamic and creative teaching assistant who is willing to embrace the wider life of school and work hard to positively impact the children’s mental and physical wellbeing, whilst supporting their learning. We would also expect the successful applicant to support the class teacher. Experience delivering or supporting ELSA interventions and pastoral support programmes would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, with high expectations of themselves and the children. They will have the ability to work within a motivated team who are relishing the challenge of supporting individuals to achieve their personal best. To join us and be successful, you will need to demonstrate:

• NVQ 3 or equivalent.
• English and Maths GCSE Grade C /4 or equivalent.
• Experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school setting.
• A working understanding of attachment-aware and trauma-informed practice.
• Strong behaviour management skills, with the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children.
• Experience supporting children with additional needs, including SEND.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when working with pupils, staff and families.
• The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
• Good organisational skills, including maintaining records of interventions and pupil progress.
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a pastoral and inclusion team.
• A calm, nurturing and patient approach.
• Be subject to an Enhanced DBS disclosure, overseas police check (if applicable), health check and professional reference checks.

Desirable Criteria

• ELSA qualification or relevant pastoral support training.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience working with external agencies and professionals.
• Knowledge of restorative practice.
• Experience supporting children with anxiety, emotional regulation needs or school-based avoidance.

Duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Support teaching and learning across the classroom under the direction of the class teacher.
• Work with individual pupils and small groups to reinforce learning and improve progress.
• Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the needs of pupils with SEND and additional needs.
• Promote pupil engagement, independence and confidence in learning.
• Assist with classroom organisation, preparation of resources and displays.
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions and wider school activities.
• Supervise pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits and school events as required.
• Promote positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy.

Pastoral and ELSA Support

• Deliver targeted ELSA interventions and emotional literacy programmes for individuals and small groups.
• Build positive, nurturing relationships that support pupils’ emotional wellbeing and self-esteem.
• Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience, social skills and confidence.
