Level 3 / Level 2 Nursery Practitioner – Early Years Practice in a Primary School Setting

Location: Woodlands Primary School, Ellesmere Port

Grade: NJC Grade 4 (£25,185-£25,989 pro-rata)

Position: Part time working hours to be agreed at interview/to include some extended day working. Temporary initially, with a view to hopefully being made permanent.

Woodlands Primary School is proud to have opened the first nursery baby room in a CWAC primary school in September 2025, offering high-quality education and care for children aged 9–24 months, Hedgehogs. This expanded our over-subscribed 24–36-month nursery, Squirrels and 36 month+ pre-school, Foxes. As we have continued to grow, we are seeking more qualified staff within our Nursery/Pre-school. As a Level 3/Level 2 Practitioner, you will play a vital role in shaping this provision, creating a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment where our youngest learners can thrive. We are committed to delivering excellence from the very start of a child’s educational journey — and we are looking for dedicated, passionate, and creative individuals to help us realise this vision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create a calm, nurturing, and enabling environment tailored to the developmental needs of babies, toddlers, and pre-schoolers.
  • Support children’s emotional security, physical development, and cognitive curiosity through high-quality care and responsive interaction.
  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate learning activities aligned to the EY framework, including sensory play, communication and language, and personal, social and emotional development.
  • As a Key Person, build secure attachments with children and positive, professional partnerships with parents.
  • Ensure health, hygiene and safeguarding protocols are strictly followed, including intimate care procedures and safe sleep practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, contributing to a reflective and innovative team culture.

  • A Level 3 / Level 2 qualification in Early Years Education (or equivalent).
  • Experience working with babies and toddlers, ideally in a nursery, pre-school, or childminding setting.
  • A deep understanding of early child development, particularly in the 0–3 age phase.
  • A calm, patient and playful approach, with excellent communication and observation skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice, safeguarding, and high-quality care.
  • The ability to contribute to continuous improvement as part of an innovative team.
