Cheshire East Council is seeking a committed Tree Team Leader to supervise an operational team, ensuring the delivery of cost‑effective, customer‑focused arboriculture services within a commercial environment. The postholder will lead the tree team in accordance with the Council's values, priorities, policies and procedures, maintaining health and safety, regulatory compliance, environmental standards and financial accountability.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and organise the work of the arboriculture teams, allocating human and physical resources within budget parameters; manage timesheets, holiday requests and absence processes.
  • Supervise the work of the teams in the postholder’s control, conducting regular and spot checks to ensure staff are following operational policies, wearing correct PPE, and complying with transport legislation.
  • Monitor and review scheduled operations and all commercial work, ensuring safety, health, environment and quality measures are met; provide professional advice and contribute to tender documents, service specifications, and cost‑effective bids.
  • Work within financial parameters, accurately accounting for and reporting all work.
  • Investigate reports of perceived service delivery failures and corporate/customer complaints; liaise with complainants, frontline teams and management to establish root causes and implement preventative actions.
  • Provide specialist advice and guidance on the Tree Team’s work to directorates, elected members, subcontractors, community groups, suppliers, government agencies, external organisations and members of the public.
  • Manage all aspects of staff management in accordance with agreed policies, including recruitment, induction, probation, absenteeism, performance, grievance and disciplinary procedures.
  • Offer advice and guidance at all levels on issues relating to arboriculture, communicated orally or in writing at a level appropriate for the audience.
  • Carry out start‑of‑day and end‑of‑day duties such as allocating staff and vehicles, distributing keys, signing daily check forms, distributing task sheets and memos, and issuing PPE.
