An exciting opportunity for a 12‑month position within the Democratic Services Team at Cheshire East Council, covering maternity leave. The role supports the effective delivery of democratic and governance functions at the council, ensuring meetings are well organised, lawful, transparent, and accessible.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and publish agendas and reports
  • Attend meetings and produce accurate minutes
  • Provide advice on constitutional and procedural matters
  • Support elected members in carrying out their roles and contribute to maintaining high standards of governance and public accountability
  • Work with colleagues across multiple services, manage competing priorities, and help ensure statutory and internal deadlines are met

Qualifications

  • Experience of working in a local government environment, supporting decision‑making and governance processes
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment, managing competing priorities with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear agendas, minutes and reports
  • Confidence in working professionally with a range of stakeholders, including elected members, senior officers and internal colleagues
  • Good organisational and administrative skills, with a proactive and flexible approach to problem‑solving
  • Confidence using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications. Experience of Modern.Gov/Issue Manager is desirable but not essential
