Team Leader – Personal Development Tutors

Line manage and support a team of Personal Development Tutors within the campus area in the delivery of a high quality, engaging, relevant tutorial programme and effective 1:1 reviews.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure attendance is robustly challenged and monitor arrangements to support learners to attend.
  • Carry a small caseload of learners and support them in group tutorials and 1:1s.
  • Provide pastoral, welfare and initial safeguarding support for learners and support the College to provide wrap‑around care.
  • Act as a point of contact for referrals and make appropriate referrals.
  • Work closely with curriculum and other departments to oversee support and quality assurance for attendance, progress and progression.
  • Deliver high quality and effective tutorials, maintaining high attendance and supporting learner outcomes.
Candidate Profile
  • Experience of leading a team – through previous work, line management, youth/community groups, voluntary work or charity work.
  • Strong communication skills, enjoyment of helping young people and supporting them.
  • Leading, guiding, coaching and mentoring; chairing meetings; planning and implementing; setting and reviewing targets; working to deadlines; reviewing for continuous improvement.
  • Forming working relationships which result in positive outcomes.
  • Managing difficult situations such as safeguarding concerns with a calm approach.
Qualifications
  • Level 4 qualification in a relevant subject (or equivalent).
  • GCSE Grade C (4/5) in Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • PGCE/Cert Ed/Level 3 Education and Training (or equivalent) or actively working towards one of the qualifications.
  • Enhanced DBS check.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Good understanding of the personal development themes covered in group tutorials.
  • Ability to deliver effective group tutorial sessions, including those on more sensitive topics.
  • Awareness and understanding of excellent pastoral, welfare and academic support.
  • Clear understanding of the importance of student target setting, monitoring and reviewing to ensure achievement and a positive outcome for students.
  • Ability to lead a team and ensure departmental outcomes are achieved.
