About the Role

Chery Commercial Vehicle UK Ltd is seeking an experienced Legal Manager to establish and lead the legal function for our growing UK business. As the company's trusted legal adviser, you will play a key role in enabling commercial success while ensuring compliance with UK laws and regulations. Working closely with senior leaders in both the UK and global headquarters, you will provide practical legal advice across commercial contracts, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, legal risk management and strategic business projects. Requirements

  • Education & Professional Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or above. Qualified Solicitor or Barrister in England and Wales is required; Barrister qualification is an advantage. CIPP/E (Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe) certification is required.
  • Work Experience: 5 - 10 years of relevant legal experience. At least 2 years' legal experience in the automotive industry. Experience providing legal support for automotive distribution, dealer networks or vehicle sales operations is preferred.
  • Professional Knowledge: Strong knowledge of UK commercial law, contract law, consumer protection law, advertising law and the UK GDPR.
  • Language: Native-level English proficiency is required. Mandarin Chinese language skills are preferred.
  • General Qualities: Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Commercially minded with strong risk awareness. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams. High level of integrity, professionalism and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, revise and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including but not limited to Dealer Agreements, Vehicle Sales Agreements, Vehicle Conversion Agreements with different business modes, Aftersales Service Agreements, Technical Support Agreements, Rebate Agreements, Procurement Contracts and other kinds of agreements.
  • Provide legal and compliance support for business development.
  • Establish and maintain the legal compliance framework for the UK subsidiary.
  • Lead data protection and Marketing and Advertising compliance initiatives, ensuring compliance with the UK GDPR and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Review the legality of processing and transferring of different types of data especially data generated from vehicles, assess the compliance of marketing materials and promotional activities, establish a marketing compliance process and negative list, and ensure the Company's operations comply with UK legal requirements.
  • Handle legal disputes involving consumers, dealers and suppliers. Coordinate responses to investigations and enforcement actions by regulatory authorities, manage external legal counsel, and support arbitration or litigation matters where required to protect the Company's legal interests.
  • Establish and continuously improve the Company's legal risk management framework, including contract management, legal risk identification, assessment and early warning mechanisms.
  • Provide legal support for the Company's operations, major projects and business decisions.
  • Provide day-to-day legal advice and legal training to the Sales, Marketing, Aftersales, Procurement and other business teams.
  • Undertake other legal matters and responsibilities assigned by the Company or line manager.
