Head of Design Engineering:

Head of Design Engineering | Mansfield | Salary – Up to £62,623 | 29% Pension | 42 days holiday

Cherry Professional are currently working with a market-leading North Nottinghamshire based company. They are looking for a Head of Design Engineering to join their close-knit and thriving team.

Responsibilities:

1. Work with the leadership team to prioritize engineering projects aligned with business targets, considering available resources.
2. Drive the engineering strategy.
3. Collaborate, negotiate, and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and ensure compliance with the engineering strategy.
4. Lead the specialist engineering function, including team development, staff management, workload allocation, and meeting core work and commercial delivery.
5. Advise operational teams on engineering matters, including design, construction, procurement, and contract management, particularly for Public Safety and Subsidence, Environment, and Development sectors.
6. Support business development by providing engineering input for new products and market opportunities, including preparing engineering fee proposals.
7. Define scope of works and specifications to facilitate contract documentation, and manage the preparation and administration of engineering contracts when required.
8. Design and prepare specifications for ground investigations, ground stabilization, and geo-technical works.
9. Prepare specifications and instructions for external specialists/consultants involved in design works and oversee their processes.
10. Maintain and enhance engineering standards within the team, ensuring compliance with legislation, codes, and standards. Own the engineering policy and related documents.
11. Develop and monitor quality and reliability standards, establishing metrics to assess performance against industry benchmarks and customer requirements.

Ideal Candidate:

• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering field.
• Managerial experience in civil engineering, mining, or related disciplines.
• Experience in designing and specifying civil engineering works and understanding of CDM Regulations.
• Knowledge of surface hazard and spoil heap management best practices.
• Experience communicating with the public, regulatory bodies, contractors, and consultants.
• Knowledge of mine workings, liability management, colliery closure, land management, and disposal.
• Understanding of Mining, Property, Environmental, Health and Safety, Planning & CDM regulations.
