Personal Tax Advisor (ATT Qualified) Nottingham
A forward-thinking firm of Accountants in Derby is looking to hire a Personal Tax Advisor to take ownership of a portfolio of personal tax clients-predominantly owner-managed businesses (OMBs) and SME directors.
This isn't a role where you simply "crunch the return". You'll work closely with clients to provide practical, commercial advice-including how to extract money from their businesses efficiently to fund personal tax liabilities, while staying compliant and planning ahead.
The role
You'll manage a varied portfolio and support clients through the full personal tax cycle, with real emphasis on advisory conversations.Typical responsibilities include:
- Managing a portfolio of personal tax clients (largely SME/OMB directors)
- Reviewing and preparing Self-Assessment tax returns
- Advising clients on tax-efficient remuneration/extraction strategies (e.g., salary/dividend mix and wider planning)
- Supporting with capital gains tax planning, property income, and broader personal tax queries
- Liaising directly with clients to gather information, explain outcomes, and provide clear next steps
- Working with colleagues across accounts/business services to ensure joined-up advice
- Handling HMRC correspondence and queries as needed
What we're looking for
- ATT qualified (minimum requirement)
- Strong experience in personal tax compliance with a client portfolio
- Confident advising SME directors/OMBs and explaining options in plain English
- A proactive, commercial mindset-someone who enjoys client interaction, not just technical work
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage deadlines across the tax calendar
