Bookkeeper (Part-Time, 25 hrs/week)

A well-established accountancy practice in Derby is looking for a Bookkeeper to join the team on a part-time, permanent basis. You’ll support a varied SME client base, delivering accurate bookkeeping and VAT returns, helping clients stay compliant and up to date.
The roleWorking closely with the wider accounts team, you’ll take ownership of bookkeeping across multiple clients, ensuring deadlines are met and records are maintained to a high standard.
Key responsibilities:
- Bookkeeping for a portfolio of clients (sole traders, partnerships and limited companies)
- Preparing and submitting VAT returns
- Bank and ledger reconciliations, maintaining control accounts
- Liaising with clients to resolve queries and obtain missing information
- Using cloud accounting systems and supporting digital/MTD processes where required
- Providing clean, reliable records to support accounts preparation
About you
- Previous experience in a bookkeeping role (practice background beneficial)
- Confident preparing VAT returns
- Comfortable using Sage accounting softwareand Excel
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and the ability to juggle deadlines
- A professional communicator with a client-service approach
Qualifications:
- AAT qualified (or part-qualified) and/or Qualified by Experience (QBE)
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Making Tax Digital (MTD)
