Based at: Cherry Oak School, 60 Frederick Road, B29 6PB

Hours: 32.5 per week – Term Time Only – Permanent (Monday – Friday)

Salary: £20,569 – £23,186 (Actual Salary, includes £1,507 SEN Allowance FTE)

Overview

Cherry Oak School supports pupils with cognition and communication difficulties and autism. The role focuses on unlocking each child’s potential and fostering confidence, communication, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate the Unspoken: Implement a sensory‑ and trauma‑informed approach, personalized communication strategies, and creative technology to give every child a voice.
  • Celebrate the “Firsts”: Witness moments when a child makes eye contact, shares a resource, or masters a new skill.
  • Collaborate with a Supportive Team: Work alongside experts, share ideas, and celebrate victories—small or large.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A desire to work with pupils on the autistic spectrum.
  • Willingness to learn about autism and other diagnosed Special Educational Needs.
  • Ability to follow and implement key information such as Positive Behaviour Management Plans, Sensory Differences Profiles, Individual Pupil Risk Assessments, Pupil Profiles and Transition Guidance.
  • Adaptability to school needs with an “I can do” attitude.
  • Initiative and teamwork skills.
  • Clear communication with pupils and colleagues.
  • Ownership of tasks and commitment to supporting children with special needs.
  • Commitment to safeguarding pupils.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
