Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Grounds Operative role based in east London. The Grounds Operative will carry out routine grounds maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, hedge trimming, weeding, leaf clearance, litter picking, and general outdoor cleaning. The role involves using a range of grounds maintenance tools and machinery, performing basic checks to ensure equipment is safe and in good working order, and reporting any defects or issues promptly. The Grounds Operative will work to agreed schedules, follow health and safety procedures at all times, and ensure that sites are kept clean, tidy, and presentable for residents, staff, and visitors. The role may require working across multiple client locations, supporting the wider team, and interacting politely and professionally with clients and the public.
Qualifications
- Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, gardening, or a related outdoor maintenance role.
- Ability to safely use and maintain grounds equipment and tools (e.g., mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers).
- Awareness of and commitment to health and safety practices, including safe manual handling and use of PPE.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to work to schedules independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and a professional, customer-focused approach when dealing with clients and the public.
- Physical ability to perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Full UK driving licence is highly desirable, especially for travel between sites.
- Previous experience working with housing associations, local authorities, or commercial sites is an advantage but not essential.
