Chepstow House School is an established 3 form entry, Co-ed Prep with a nursery attached and outstanding facilities within the Notting Hill Gate area. It is a growing school offering opportunities for staff development and career progression. We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Year 3 Class Teacher who will promote and develop a positive and engaging learning environment. You will build strong relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues, contributing to the wider life of the school and maintaining a classroom environment that encourages growth, respect, and high standards. This role is 1 years' maternity cover, starting in September 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and teach lessons across all primary subjects in line with the school’s schemes of work, ensuring lessons are engaging, well-structured and appropriately differentiated, including preparation for 11+ assessments.
  • Work closely with parallel teachers to plan the curriculum, medium-term plans and daily lessons.
  • Mark work, assess progress and keep clear, accurate records, providing feedback, reports and references as required.
  • Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages learning, confidence and personal development.
  • Maintain good behaviour and discipline, promote the school’s values and ensure safeguarding and health and safety requirements are met.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, supporting their academic progress and overall wellbeing.
  • Carry out pastoral and administrative duties, including completing registers and monitoring attendance.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about pupils’ progress and wellbeing, and be available for meetings before or after school.
  • Take part in the wider life of the school, including assemblies, concerts, trips, events and extracurricular activities.
  • Organise and look after classroom resources, and maintain an orderly and stimulating learning environment, including displays.
  • Attend staff meetings, training and appraisal activities, and keep up to date with current practice.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues, parents and the wider school community to support pupils’ development.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Qualified teacher (PGCE, QTS or equivalent) with a strong academic background.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to inspire and engage pupils.
  • Able to motivate pupils and encourage positive attitudes to learning.
  • Confident in planning and assessment, including adapting work to meet individual needs and tracking progress effectively.
  • Good classroom management skills, maintaining a calm, respectful and productive environment.
  • Experience supporting pupil wellbeing and pastoral care, with a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Strong communication skills, able to build positive relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
  • Well organised, able to manage workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Professional in approach, including presentation, conduct and contribution to school life.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development.
  • Positive, energetic and flexible, with a practical, can-do attitude.
