About the role: Weâre looking for a FieldâBased MultiâSkilled Engineer with an electrical bias to support several CHEP service centres across the Thurrock region. Youâll be responsible for maintaining, faultâfinding, and improving automated equipment across multiple sites, ensuring high levels of safety, reliability, and operational performance. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact across multiple operations.
What youâll do:
- Deliver proactive and reactive maintenance across multiple CHEP facilities
- Diagnose faults and conduct detailed root cause analysis
- Drive continuous improvement across equipment and maintenance processes
- Support site reliability initiatives: identify failure modes, analyse trends, and implement corrective actions
- Assist with project work, upgrades, and change initiatives
- Use CMMS to log, track, and manage maintenance activities
- Supervise contractors and issue work permits
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with regulations and CHEP standards
What we need from you:
- Strong electrical bias with relevant electrical qualifications
- Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance
- Multiâskilled capability across electrical and mechanical disciplines
- Experience in fastâpaced, safetyâcritical or automated environments
- Confident faultâfinding skills (electrical, mechanical, PLC)
- Ability to read engineering drawings and use workshop tools
- Experience with automation, PLCs, robotics, or similar technologies (highly desirable)
- A proactive, safetyâfocused mindset and the ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Full UK driving licence
