Who are we? South Woodham Ferrers Day Centre is a community-focused facility located in South Woodham Ferrers, Essex. Our core mission is to support elderly residents including those experiencing loneliness, mild disabilities, or the early stages of dementia by helping them remain active, engaged, and connected within a supportive environment. We provide a warm and welcoming space for older adults and vulnerable members of the community, offering a wide range of social, recreational, and support services. Our aim is to promote independence, safeguard wellbeing, and foster social inclusion through meaningful activities and compassionate care.

Job Purpose: To provide high-quality care and support to individuals attending the Day Centre, promoting their independence, dignity, and overall well-being. The role involves assisting with personal care, facilitating meaningful activities, and creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where individuals can thrive socially, emotionally, and physically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support: Assist individuals with daily activities, including mobility and social interaction, ensuring dignity and independence.
  • Activity Facilitation: Plan and participate in a wide range of engaging activities tailored to individual needs and preferences, promoting social inclusion, stimulation, and overall well-being. This includes:
  • Organizing day outings (parks, museums, community visits)
  • Hosting fun events (cultural celebrations, themed parties, seasonal festivals)
  • Facilitating games and puzzles (board games, memory games, card games, bingo, dementia-friendly activities)
  • Conducting creative workshops (arts & crafts, painting, knitting, music, dance, drama sessions)
  • Arranging exercise and movement sessions (gentle yoga, stretching, chair exercises, walking groups)
  • Offering therapeutic activities (gardening, pet therapy, sensory stimulation activities)
  • Leading discussion and reminiscence groups (storytelling, memory sharing, book clubs, movie afternoons)
  • Supporting life skills activities (cooking, baking, household tasks to build confidence and independence)
  • Care Planning: Contribute to the development and implementation of person-centred care plans, ensuring they are regularly reviewed and updated.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Observe and record individuals' progress, behaviours, and concerns, reporting to senior staff as necessary.
  • Health and Safety: Maintain a safe and secure environment by adhering to safeguarding and health and safety protocols.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with colleagues, attending team meetings, training, and contributing positively to the overall care environment.
  • Essential Criteria:

    • Genuine interest in supporting individuals with varying needs.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care.

    Desirable:

    • Previous experience in a care or support setting (especially with dementia clients).
    • Knowledge of person-centred care principles.
    • A full UK driving licence (optional but beneficial).
