Chemring Energetics UK (CEUK) is a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers.

We have an exciting opportunity to work as part of a dedicated team in a unique environment to prepare for and commission a new, state-of-the-art facility to produce propellants for use in rocket motors and ejection systems. The successful candidate will work through the pre-commissioning phase with the wider team to prepare associated documentation, such as hazard studies, commissioning plans/procedures, operating instructions/procedures, and risk assessments. Time may be spent working with engineers in the current facility to provide knowledge and understanding of the current process to support this.

During the commissioning phase, the candidate will be responsible for certain elements within the process and will share responsibility for delivery of both inert and live (using energetic materials) commissioning with the wider team. This facility is one-of-a-kind, so will present unique challenges and will require individuals to apply who enjoy problem solving and working with a wide array of stakeholders, including regulators, internal stakeholders, HSE, suppliers, design teams, and consultancy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out all activities in full compliance with H&SE legislation, within company policy and procedure.
  • Design plant/process layouts and include any jigs or tooling necessary in conjunction with the engineer working on product development and the drawing office department.
  • Lead teams to carry out Risk Assessments on manufacturing processes and trials work.
  • Implement safe, lean manufacturing methods and ensure all engineering design changes are managed in accordance with change procedures.
  • Carry out reviews on existing products and processes using tools like Process FMEA and statistical analysis to develop improvement programmes.
  • Support and lead root cause analysis and corrective action management plans.
  • Maintain product design history files, including data packs and Bills of Materials.
  • Provide written operating instructions, route cards, manufacturing quality plans and training for production personnel.
  • Assist with Production Readiness Review and handover to production.
  • Analyse technical data and form conclusions and recommendations.
  • Provide support to production when required to address engineering issues.
  • Work as directed to complete essential manufacturing critical projects when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in Manufacturing - Engineering/Chemistry/Mechanical or general engineering discipline.
  • Understanding of engineering processes, particularly systems engineering, requirements management, validation & verification, product safety and product certification.
  • Relative & related experience in a production environment.
  • Engineering design and problem solving.
  • NEBOSH (Preferable).
  • IT Skills (MS Office, Teams).
  • Personal commitment to Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Knowledge of the principles of company policy and operating procedures to ensure site and company compliance.
