Senior Software Engineer – AI Development
Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire | Minimum three days a week in the office
Lead complex software projects, work extensively with AI coding agents and help shape how a growing technology business delivers for its clients.
Our client builds software for organisations across healthcare, life sciences and other sectors. As its first senior engineering hire, you’ll take a central role in technical delivery, setting engineering standards and developing the team’s approach.
You’ll need strong foundations in software engineering and architecture, developed through designing, building and supporting production systems yourself. AI agents will be part of your everyday workflow, with your judgement guiding what gets built and whether it meets the required standard.
The role
- Lead client projects from architecture and specification through development, testing and release.
- Turn business problems into clear technical plans, keeping solutions focused on what clients actually need.
- Direct AI coding agents using tools such as Claude Code and Codex, supported by effective testing and feedback loops.
- Review code for correctness, maintainability and security, taking responsibility for the quality of the finished product.
- Work directly with clients, explain technical decisions clearly and support the adoption of AI tools within their teams.
- Develop reusable components, tooling and delivery practices, while supporting junior engineers.
What you’ll bring
- Substantial commercial software engineering experience, including at senior level, with a track record of shipping and supporting production systems.
- Strong understanding of architecture, system design, data modelling, APIs and integration.
- Fluency in TypeScript or Python, SQL and relational databases, alongside experience with a modern front end such as React.
- Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, plus containers, infrastructure as code and CI/CD.
- A thorough approach to testing, code review and secure development.
- Regular use of AI coding agents on real projects.
- Confidence working directly with clients and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience in regulated industries, consultancy or building LLM applications, agents or MCP servers would be useful.
What you can expect
You’ll have considerable influence over technical decisions, delivery methods and how the team grows, with scope to develop towards further technical or management responsibility.
The package includes additional financial incentives and funded courses, exams and certifications.
This is a small business where priorities can change and the work can be demanding. It will suit someone who enjoys taking ownership and wants to help build the business as well as deliver its projects.
The role requires at least three days a week in the Ashby-de-la-Zouch office, with some remote flexibility and time on client sites.
