About the role
Reporting to: Operations Assistant Manager
Job type: Permanent
Salary: £14.56p/h - £28,392
Working Pattern & Hours: The role operates on a shift rota with hours of 8:00am–4:30pm or 1:00pm–9:30pm, and will also require inclusion in the scheduled weekend rota.
Location: Skelmersdale, WN8
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership- Supervise the team in their daily tasks and monitor performance
- Delegate tasks effectively to ensure smooth workflow and productivity
- Ensure all team members complete relevant training and refreshers
- Manage holidays, absences, and rota planning in line with company policies
- Conduct regular team meetings
- Provide coaching and support to team members to improve skills and morale
- Ensure the team follows all procedures for receiving, inspecting, and storing goods
- Adhere to all relevant regulations for handling pharmaceutical products, including GPhC and MHRA guidelines
- Coordinate the transport of inventory between warehouse sites as required
- Assist in optimizing warehouses space by arranging goods efficiently
- Monitor records in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and report any discrepancies to the manager
- Support inventory control through regular cycle counts and discrepancy reporting
- Oversee the processing of claims in line with suppliers’ instructions and SOPs
- Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including proper lifting techniques, PPE usage, and safe equipment operation
- Report any hazards, unsafe practices, or equipment faults to management immediately
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and ensure compliance with company safety policies
- Ensure all goods are checked against delivery notes and purchase orders for accuracy
- Inspect goods for damage, expiry dates, and regulatory compliance
- Maintain accurate documentation for inventory deliveries
- Ensure proper handling and storage of controlled drugs and temperature-controlled items
- Support audits and regulatory inspections as required
- Communicate effectively with drivers, suppliers, and other warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations
- Provide updates and reports to management on goods-in performance and issues
- Collaborate with other team leaders to ensure cross-functional efficiency.
About You
You are an experienced and proactive team leader who thrives in a fast-paced warehouse or logistics environment. With strong people-management skills, you know how to supervise daily operations, delegate effectively, and motivate your team to deliver consistent, high-quality results. You take pride in developing others, providing coaching, and ensuring everyone has the training they need to perform their best. You have a solid understanding of warehouse processes, from receiving and inspecting goods to accurate storage, stock control, and documentation. You’re confident working with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and have a keen eye for identifying discrepancies, supporting audits, and maintaining clear, compliant records. Experience working to regulatory standards is desirable.
Qualifications & Experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Warehousing and Storage, or an equivalent qualification (desirable)
- Forklift truck licence (desirable)
- Proven leadership experience in a logistics or warehouse environment
- Knowledge of GPhC guidelines and MHRA requirements relating to pharmaceutical products (desirable).
