Chemist Warehouse is Australia's largest pharmacy retailer with over 17,000 team members and more than 600 stores nationwide. Following our merger with Sigma Healthcare, we're now a Top 50 ASX-listed company with expanding operations across New Zealand, Ireland, and China. Together, we're transforming healthcare and retail with industry-leading distribution, technology, and people practices — and we want you to be part of this journey.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you'll play a key role in operating and evolving enterprise-wide infrastructure, platforms, and tooling services across cloud environments, data centres, warehouses, and stores. You'll drive unified platform engineering and technical delivery practices, contribute to strategic initiatives and continuous improvement, and support day-to-day operations.
Our technology stack includes Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), HashiCorp Cloud Platform (Vault, Terraform), GitHub, Azure DevOps, Cloudflare, Apigee, .NET, and Node.js. We're using many others, and our technology will transform as our business requirements and external environment evolve.
Role Responsibilities- Collaborating with project teams to plan, design, and implement solutions across Azure, GCP, and on-premises.
- Implementing and maintaining processes to provide prompt feedback on quality.
- Proactively monitoring and operating platform infrastructure solutions.
- Contributing to the resolution, root cause analysis, and preventative measures of alerts and incidents.
- Designing infrastructure, platform, and tooling solutions in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Identifying, advising, and implementing continuous improvement across our technology landscape.
- Advocating for and guiding team members on DevOps culture.
- Fostering intra and inter-team relationships with technical and non-technical team members.
- Consulting and mentoring technology team members on best practices and solution options.
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Extensive experience with DevOps practices. This role is an integral contributor to our DevOps strategy. You'll need hands-on experience of what does and doesn't work to succeed.
- A robust knowledge of Cloud Engineering, particularly with Azure or GCP.
- A sound understanding of technical delivery tools such as Source Control Management (SCM) and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
- A philosophy of lifelong learning. Technology is constantly changing, and so are we. You'll keep up with technology trends and explore new solution options through experimentation.
- An eagerness to mentor and grow with others. We'll learn together and share our knowledge and experiences.
The learning curve will be a little shorter if you also have experience in:
- Platform engineering. Our ability to scale will depend on creating highly reusable solutions that teams can autonomously consume and contribute to.
- Observability. The technology solutions we build will support many organisational objectives. We'll need to know about issues before they occur and contain their impact.
- Cloud security. It will be a critical factor in everything we design and build, and we'd like you to help us define what 'right' looks like.
- Software engineering. We're not full-time software engineers, but empathy with the team members we support helps us tailor the right solutions.
- Networking, as it underpins the connectivity between everything we build. Understanding core networking principles such as routing, firewalls, and DNS goes a long way in all technology roles.
- Physical hardware, VMware virtualisation, and Windows Operating Systems. We have plenty of solutions we'd like to analyse and evaluate for a cloud migration.
- Discounts across all Chemist Warehouse Retail group brands
- Access to ongoing training and professional development
