The Platforms Engineer will be responsible for the management and support of AWS cloud infrastructure as well as cloud connected local network locations. This role requires a thorough understanding of AWS services, cloud architecture, Kubernetes (K8s), Data Platforms and network infrastructure. The successful candidate will ensure the reliability, connectivity, security, and efficiency of both Global cloud and 24/7 on-premises manufacturing environments. You'll be the person implementing the platform that connects our automated Robotics synthesis labs to both on-prem and cloud-based services.
Key Responsibilities:- Cloud Infrastructure Management: Design, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure using a range of services such as EC2, S3, EKS, RDS, Lambda, and VPC. Implement and manage cloud security measures, including identity roles, security groups, and network controls. Ensure high availability, resiliency and dynamic scalability of the AWS environment. Automate cloud operations using tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS CDK. Manage and orchestrate containerized applications using Kubernetes (K8s) on AWS (EKS). Build and shape the observability & real-time telemetry platform.
- Secure by Design: Develop and enforce security policies and procedures for cloud and local network environments. Administer and manage firewalls (cloud & local), ensuring they are properly configured to protect network integrity. Implement and manage VPN solutions for secure remote access, including site-to-site and client-to-site VPNs. Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments and take corrective actions to mitigate risks. Stay informed about the latest security threats and implement measures to protect against them (including data backup management and automation). Secure SDLC, secrets management, least-privilege IAM patterns, zero-trust principles.
- Collaboration and Support: Work closely with development, chemistry, robotics and operations teams to ensure seamless integration of cloud and local network systems. Including the introduction of new vendor-based hardware solutions and custom robotics platforms. Provide technical support and training to remote team members and on-site operations end-users as needed. Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergencies in a timely manner. Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to enhance efficiency. With a particular focus on CI/CD practices, GitOps, DevOps and tools such as Gitlab & ArgoCD.
- Experience working with Linux in infrastructure teams, particularly with hybrid cloud environments integrated with on-premises infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of networking principles, protocols, and server equipment.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as CloudFormation and Terraform.
- Proven experience in managing and supporting local users, cloud services & network facilities.
- Experience in security management, hardware firewalls, and VPN administration.
- Experience with cloud services & Kubernetes (K8s) for container orchestration and management.
- Familiarity with DNS, load balancers, network monitoring and management tools.
- Strong scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
- Expertise in configuring and managing HPC clusters, Video Streaming and AI GPU systems.
- Demonstrable track record in auto-scaling cloud services, ideally within AI/ML, Science, Manufacturing or IoT contexts.
- Impact: You will lead a team of Lab Coordinators and Production Technicians responsible for maintaining and improving the lab space at the first Chemifarm, laying the foundation for how future Chemifarms will operate.
- Autonomy: Reporting to the Inventory and Materials Manager, you will own the lab operations strategy, improve processes and workflows, and have meaningful impact over how Chemify labs run and operate.
