Chemify is revolutionising chemistry.

We are creating a future where the synthesis of previously unimaginable molecules, drugs, and materials is instantly accessible.

By combining AI, robotics, and the world’s largest continually expanding database of chemical programs, we are accelerating chemical discovery to improve quality of life and extend the reach of humanity.

Role Overview

We are hiring an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our Corporate IT team as a key second-line escalation point across Chemify’s growing technology estate.

First-line queries are handled by our service desk, freeing this role to focus on complex infrastructure challenges, endpoint fleet management, and the tooling and automation that underpins everything Chemify’s teams depend on.

You will own the administration of Microsoft Intune and Entra ID, maintain network infrastructure across our Glasgow sites — all while partnering with our Dev Sec Ops engineer, Chief Architect, and wider engineering teams on projects that push our infrastructure forward.

This role would suit a candidate with 3 or more years in a second-line infrastructure or systems administration role who is comfortable owning platforms end-to-end, not just supporting them.

If you thrive in a small, dynamic team with a start-up mentality and want real ownership of cutting‑edge infrastructure supporting robotics, GPU systems, and cloud technologies, this is the role for you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Endpoint Fleet Management & Intune Administration
  • Own and administer Microsoft Intune as Chemify’s primary MDM/MAM platform across Windows and mac OS device estates
  • Design, deploy, and maintain compliance policies, configuration profiles, conditional access rules, and app deployment packages
  • Manage Windows Autopilot provisioning and zero‑touch device enrolment workflows
  • Monitor endpoint health and compliance using Intune Endpoint Analytics and Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
  • Act as the escalation point for complex endpoint issues beyond first-line resolution
  • Identity & Access Management
  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), managing user lifecycle, group policies, and role-based access controls
  • Maintain and improve Entra ID conditional access policies and hybrid identity sync (Entra Connect)
  • Support privileged identity management and access reviews in line with Chemify’s security standards
  • Own patch management cycles, hardening baselines, and vulnerability remediation across Windows and Linux server environments
  • Support and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure, including cost management and security posture
  • Manage backup and recovery processes, ensuring RTO/RPO targets are met across production environments
  • Network Infrastructure
  • Administer and maintain switching infrastructure (Cisco/Meraki), firewalls, VPN, and wireless across Chemify’s Glasgow sites
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues escalated from first line or flagged through monitoring
  • Contribute to network design decisions for new sites and infrastructure expansion projects
  • Develop and maintain Power Shell scripts and automation workflows to reduce manual effort and improve consistency across IT operations
  • Leverage Microsoft Power Automate and other tooling to streamline IT processes and service delivery
  • Identify and drive proactive improvements to infrastructure reliability, security, and operational efficiency
  • Participate actively in Change Management and Problem Management processes within Chemify’s evolving ITSM framework
  • Contribute to IT infrastructure projects within Chemify’s PMO framework, from scoping through to delivery and handover
  • Mentor and support first-line engineers, providing guidance on escalated issues and knowledge transfer
  • What You’ll Bring
  • Proven experience in a second-line infrastructure, systems administration, or IT engineering role
  • Degree in IT, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands‑on administration experience with Microsoft Intune — including compliance policies, configuration profiles, app deployment, and Autopilot
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID and on‑premises Active Directory, including hybrid identity and conditional access
  • Proficiency in Power Shell scripting for administration and automation tasks
  • Experience administering Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Share Point, and Teams
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Linux server administration, patching, and virtualisation platforms
  • Experience supporting network infrastructure including Cisco/Meraki switching, firewalls, VPN, and wireless
  • Understanding of hybrid cloud environments, with exposure to AWS and/or Azure
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles and the ability to apply them across infrastructure and endpoint management
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders from first-line engineers through to C‑level executives
  • Beneficial Skills
  • ITSM experience with familiarity of the ITIL framework, particularly Incident, Change, and Problem Management
  • Experience with automation tooling such as Microsoft Power Automate or UIPath
  • AV equipment set‑up and support across meeting room and collaboration environments
  • Familiarity with Agile ways of working and experience partnering with software development teams
  • UK driving licence and willingness to support across Chemify's three Glasgow sites.
  • Advanced Research Centre, University of Glasgow, 11 Chapel Lane, G11 6EW
