As a Product Development Scientist, you’ll contribute to JM’s mission as a world leader in sustainable technology, transforming energy and reducing carbon emissions for a cleaner, brighter future.

The role:

As a Product Development Scientist, you will help drive our goals by:

  • Work within HT Technologies to utilise both current and new components and manufacturing routes to integrate materials together into CCM products for customer application.
  • Carry out product development and scale-up activities with a focus on how new designs will be incorporated into a volume manufacturing environment. Use a range of prototyping equipment to create new formulations, coated components and CCMs for evaluation of new product designs.
  • Develop and analyse the results from in-situ electrochemical and ex-situ experiments to understand underlying CCM component and material properties critical to performance and durability.
  • Interpret testing, use results to make recommendations and report findings to the Product Development manager and wider technology team.
  • Plan and carry out work in accordance with business priorities including processing, interpreting and disseminating results.
  • Work closely with Applications Engineering, Process Technology and HT Research to develop next-generation components and product lines, conduct structured product testing and evaluation, and align technical development with clear customer pull and market demand. Engage customers in technical discussion where required.
  • Collaborate with current and potential suppliers to validate new materials and contributing to specification setting with Supplier Quality.
Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:
  • Degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics)
  • Proven ability to design and undertake experimental work, process data and use analytical skills to interpret the results
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment, preferably with experience of high volume manufacturing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and allow people to see all opportunities available to them, ability to listen / simplify requests from operations into workable language for development.
