Responsible for a small team delivering high‑quality analytical services to sediment, soil, biota and water samples, supporting the Environment Agency’s core responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver high‑quality analytical service to defined time, cost and quality targets.
- Collaborate with scientists to improve existing methods and develop new ones.
- Analyse samples using extraction techniques and state‑of‑the‑art instrumentation.
- Identify root causes and resolve technical issues using problem‑solving skills.
- Maintain Health & Safety procedures.
- Participate in pollution incident rota.
- Ensure work meets ISO17025 accredited laboratory standards.
- Experience in an analytical laboratory focused on organic chemistry with knowledge of analytical techniques and instrumentation.
- Good communication skills for working closely with team and other teams onsite.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines while prioritising workload and adhering to strict quality criteria.
- Problem‑solving skills, preferably in a lab environment.
- Team player who enjoys helping others and building relationships.
- Experience with a UKAS accredited or ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory.
- Experience training others.
- Degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject.
