Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 5/6 Biomedical Scientist to join our Biochemistry team in the Blood Sciences department.
Blood Sciences at Broomfield Hospital is a friendly department that incorporates Biochemistry, Blood Transfusion, Haematology, Immunology and Sample Reception. The department provides analytical services for the Mid Essex Trust, St Andrews Burns Unit and other NHS & non‑NHS providers. Biochemistry also provides the Maternal Serum Screening service for the area.
Main Duties
- Keep the department fully UKAS ISO15189 accredited.
- Operate Beckman automation, E411, CZE for proteins, HPLC and Kryptors for Down service.
- Use Enterprise as the laboratory computer system.
- Hold lunchtime seminars and support training needs.
- Maintain competency in all relevant laboratory areas.
- Work shifts on a 24/7 rota, including nights, late shifts and weekends.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic laboratory tests.
- Troubleshoot analytical equipment.
- Interpret results and provide quality laboratory reports.
- Support the development of team members.
- Participate in quality assurance activities.
Person Specification
Education & Qualification
- Essential: HCPC registered; IBMS accredited BSc Hons in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
- Desirable: Specialist Portfolio or equivalent.
Knowledge & Experience
- Essential: Demonstrable post‑registration experience; working knowledge of quality assurance principles.
- Desirable: Experience required for Band 6; understanding of quality procedures.
