An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic Band 6 - Senior Paediatric Sleep and Respiratory Physiologist to join the existing Paediatric Sleep and Respiratory Physiology team within West London Children's Healthcare (WLCH).
This specialist Band 6 role offers the opportunity to work within a growing and dynamic paediatric sleep and long-term ventilation service, supporting infants, children and young people with a wide range of complex sleep and respiratory conditions. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality diagnostic sleep studies and supporting children requiring long-term ventilation.
Based primarily at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, the role includes cross-site working across all WLCH hospitals, collaborating closely with Consultants, Clinical Scientists, Physiologists, Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Physiotherapists and wider multidisciplinary teams.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Paediatric Sleep Physiologist will support the delivery and development of specialist paediatric sleep and respiratory physiology services across West London Children's Healthcare sites.
The post holder will perform and assist in the interpretation of a range of diagnostic sleep investigations for children and young people, including complex cardiorespiratory sleep studies in patients receiving invasive or non-invasive ventilation. The role also includes supporting the initiation, education and follow-up of children receiving CPAP, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), and long-term oxygen therapy.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, family-centred care while ensuring investigations are performed to a high technical and professional standard in accordance with departmental protocols and AASM standards.

WLCH runs services from Chelsea & Westminster Hospital; Hammersmith Hospital; St Mary's Hospital and West Middlesex Hospital. Education / Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in physiological sciences or equivalent
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
- Eligible for professional registration as a Clinical Scientist
- Post graduate degree (Masters or equivalent) in physiological sciences, or equivalent.
- Registered Clinical Scientist (Respiratory and Sleep Physiology)
Experience
- Substantial experience working in a paediatric sleep and long-term ventilation unit.
- Experience in leading or contributing to departmental research projects
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Demonstrates strong theoretical knowledge of respiratory and sleep investigations, with competence in setting up, supervising, and interpreting paediatric cardiorespiratory sleep studies to AASM standards, including patients with complex needs and those on long-term ventilation or oxygen support.
- Possesses advanced technical skills to independently troubleshoot and manage diagnostic equipment and long-term ventilation devices such as CPAP and NIV.
- Provides comprehensive patient and carer support, including mask fitting, CPAP/NIV education, troubleshooting, and contributing to ongoing care and reviews.
- Applies sound clinical judgement in complex situations, communicates complex clinical information effectively to a wide range of audiences, and recognises professional limitations by seeking advice when appropriate.
- Works effectively both autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams, demonstrating strong IT skills and adaptability in clinical practice.
- Competent in the set-up, supervision, and interpretation of polysomnographic sleep studies in children to AASM standards
- Competent in performing and interpreting spirometry in children
- Ability to perform more complex lung function testing in adults and/or children
