Overview of the MAINTENANCE OPERATIVE APPRENTICE role at Cheltenham Ladies' College. Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual keen to learn and gain a Level 2 qualification, to join a friendly Maintenance Department as part of the wider Property Services team. The Maintenance Department is responsible for the maintenance of Cheltenham Ladies College across a 36-acre site including 15 boarding houses, a Performing Arts Centre, a Health and Fitness Centre, and other properties.

Role overview: You will work as part of a small team responsible for the maintenance and repairs of Cheltenham Ladies College Main Teaching Site, Boarding Houses, Health and Fitness Centre and other College-owned properties in accordance with College aims and guidelines. You will carry out various maintenance tasks, both planned and reactive, and will contribute to the upkeep of the College estate.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Support and learn from the existing maintenance team to effectively and safely carry out various maintenance tasks, both planned and reactive, across the College estate.
  • General building fabric maintenance and repairs to windows, doors, furniture, locks, and flooring.
  • Fitting, repairing, or replacing a wide range of building-related fixtures/fittings or equipment including shelving, notice/white boards, etc.
  • General domestic electrical maintenance and repairs; broken sockets, defective lamp replacements and portable appliance testing.
  • General domestic plumbing maintenance and repairs to sinks, baths, taps, toilets, showers, and associated blockages.
  • General external maintenance and minor repairs: drains, paths, steps, car parks as required.
  • Water safety testing and associated corrective actions.
  • General heating repairs and maintenance, including radiators and valves.
  • Undertake patch plastering, decorating and wall tiling as required.
  • Working with subcontractors, including escorting duties.
  • Specifying and collecting parts/materials from local suppliers when required.
  • Escort and monitor contractors as required.
  • Any other tasks reasonably assigned.

Health, safety and safeguarding: All staff are required to understand and comply with relevant health and safety legislation and Cheltenham Ladies' College policies. This job description will be reviewed/amended during performance review procedures or as agreed by both parties. Cheltenham Ladies' College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; all staff are required to undergo safeguarding training, attend mandatory child protection training on joining and as updates, and ensure familiarity with College health and safety guidance, data protection and ICT acceptable use guidelines.
