Cheltenham College is seeking a friendly, professional and highly organised HR Assistant to join our well-established HR and Payroll Team. This is an exciting opportunity to support the recruitment and onboarding of staff in a role that offers plenty of variety on a day-to-day basis. At the same time, you will ensure our recruitment, onboarding and safeguarding compliance processes are carried out accurately and efficiently whilst maintaining the highest standards.

The Role

  • Supporting recruitment campaigns by advertising vacancies, processing applications and responding to candidate enquiries.
  • Welcoming candidates on interview days, helping them feel relaxed and supported throughout the process.
  • Completing pre‑employment and safeguarding checks in line with Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) requirements.
  • Supporting managers with induction and probation processes to ensure new colleagues receive an excellent welcome to the College.
  • Providing professional administrative support to the wider HR Team and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • As your experience grows, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of recruitment for a range of support staff roles, managing the process from advertisement through to appointment.

About You

  • We are looking for someone who combines excellent administrative skills with a warm, approachable manner.
  • Excellent organisational and administration skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Excel.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and put candidates at ease.
  • A professional, friendly and positive approach when dealing with colleagues, candidates and visitors.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with absolute discretion.
  • A proactive, flexible attitude and a willingness to learn.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated or compliance‑focused environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
