Senior Environmental Health Officer - The Role:
As a Senior Environmental Health Officer, you will support the Manager in service delivery, management and development. You will undertake professional and specialist duties within an interdisciplinary team responsible for improving private sector housing conditions and enforcing the Council's responsibilities under housing and public health legislation. You will inspect properties and houses in multiple occupation, provide advice, gather evidence for legal proceedings, and ensure enforcement programmes are achieved.
Senior Environmental Health Officer - Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect properties and houses in multiple occupation for enforcement purposes and housing grant applications
- Provide evidence and appear as a witness in legal proceedings, tribunals and public enquiries
- Assess and process payments for works carried out, including interim and final payments
- Carry out inspections of work in progress to ensure satisfactory completion
- Participate in housing surveys and assess accommodation using HHSRS standards
- Liaise with Building Control, Environmental Health, Public Protection and other council departments on enforcement matters
- Negotiate with architects, surveyors and external bodies regarding statutory notices and demolition orders
Senior Environmental Health Officer - You:
- Hold a degree, MSc or equivalent in Environmental Health, or a BSc/MSc with EHRB Certificate of Registration or CIEH Chartered Practitioner Programme enrolment
- Have HHSRS training qualifications including assessment and enforcement experience
- Possess relevant experience of Housing and Public Health Act enforcement and houses in multiple occupation
- Demonstrate good IT skills in MS Office with excellent verbal and written communication
- Show strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Can manage your own workload with minimal supervision and handle difficult situations tactfully
