Estate Operative - The Role:

As an Estate Operative, you will deliver a high-quality, customer-focused service maintaining the communal areas of council-managed sheltered schemes, blocks of flats, and open spaces. You will clean communal areas to agreed standards, remove fly-tipped waste safely, test emergency lighting in blocks of flats, and work with other council teams to keep communal areas safe and clean. Your work will directly improve the environment for residents.

Estate Operative Responsibilities:

  • Carry out regular cleaning of communal areas, including carpet cleaning, window cleaning, and food waste bins using appropriate equipment
  • Collect and safely dispose of fly-tipped waste and items posing fire risks in accordance with legislation
  • Test monthly communal emergency lighting in flats and accurately record results
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous waste such as sharps, paint, and asbestos safely
  • Operate and maintain vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects
  • Use handheld devices to record job details, capture evidence, and photograph work
  • Work unsupervised and communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and management

Estate Operative You:

  • Current full driving licence
  • Experience with manual handling
  • Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment including carpet and window cleaning machinery
  • Competency driving van-sized vehicles in town environments
  • Ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety Regulations
  • Willingness to work both indoors and outdoors
