The Opportunity

The role is to be an active and contributing member of the Performance Support Team with a focus on the delivery of actionable interdisciplinary Performance Psychology, ultimately contributing to on-pitch performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a continually evolving performance Psychology program to underpin Chelsea boys Academy teams sustainable success.
  • Contributing author of a Chelsea FC Academy Way to ‘Performance Psychology’: covering areas such as philosophy, process and principles.
  • Contribute to a community of practice of those who provide performance Psychology and Wellbeing across the Men’s, Women’s, and Academies at Cobham promoting a group that shares, compliment’s, collaborates and fosters teamwork.
  • Proactively contribute to, collaborate with and compliment the entire Academy Performance support team. Working in an interdisciplinary way with players and performance at the centre of the discussion/design.
  • Work in collaboration with Coaches, Performance Analysts, and the entire Performance Support Team to ensure staff have an understanding of our players as people so as to optimise connection and development, players have appropriate care and support as/when required, and there is a process of equipping players with a better ability of performing under pressure.
  • Collection and interpretation of player Wellbeing and Psychological intel and create actionable insights to maximize player management, selection, development, health, and performance for both ‘fit’ and ‘returning to play’ players
  • Support the design and delivery of Chelsea FC Academy Individual Player Development Planning process.
  • Educate and facilitate players and support staff on how to utilise reports and interpret the insights generated

What you will bring to the role;

  • Master’s degree in Sport and Performance Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with professional and elite athletes ideally at academy age
  • High level experience across areas such as performance psychology profiling, mental skills training, stress and anxiety management, team cohesion and communication and mental resilience and coping strategies.
  • Proven ability to build trust quickly with players, coaches, and staff.
  • Able to work collaboratively with other departments
