JOB TITLE: Academy Rehabilitation Physiotherapist
LOCATION: Cobham Training Ground and Travel when required
An exciting opportunity to join Chelsea FC Men’s Academy and work within the rehab unit, responsible for leading and delivering rehabilitation to players within our full-time programme (U15-21) who experience long-term injuries.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the formulation and implementation of a strategic vision for rehabilitation.
- Support the Performance Therapies Lead with the ongoing development and implementation of the “Chelsea Way” for rehabilitation, return-to-play and performance, injury management protocol documents, exit criteria, loading progression, testing methodology and post-return-to-play monitoring and management.
- Plan, organise and deliver rehabilitation to ensure players with long-term injuries in the full-time programme return-to-performance safely within the appropriate timeframe.
- Work with performance medicine to ensure effective diagnosis, plans and appropriate return-to-play timeframes.
- Contribute to a rehabilitation team that regularly reflects on and evolves its practice.
- Ensure a smooth transition throughout the rehab process, delivering a comprehensive handover to the PPC and Performance Physio when appropriate.
- Ensure interdisciplinary co-operation with the rest of the performance support team.
- Ensure integration of PPC throughout the rehab process and effective sharing of relevant information.
- Utilise the skills and experience of the wider performance support team throughout the rehabilitation process to achieve successful outcomes.
- Develop close working relationships and integrate with the performance support team to ensure a collaborative and cohesive delivery to players.
- Support the design and delivery of players’ individual focus plans.
- Support the development of players’ athletic behaviours (sleep, nutrition, recovery, etc.) and assist with delivery where required.
- Support the collection and interpretation of key player performance and health metrics to support rehabilitation and proactive injury-prevention interventions.
- Fulfil the role of a Chartered Physiotherapist in the assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of U15-21 players, in addition to the wider group of Academy players when required.
- Ensure clear communication to all key stakeholders, keeping them informed of players’ progress and providing clear updates throughout the rehabilitation process.
- Participate in player screening and monitoring of the U15-21 squad throughout the season, providing assistance with other age groups when required.
What you will bring to the role
- Physiotherapy degree plus HCPC registration
- Previous experience of working with young, elite athletes
- A good understanding of the role of growth and maturation in injury profiles
- Extensive experience in planning and delivering the rehabilitation of a wide range of sports injuries
- Significant experience using clinical, gym and pitch-based objective measures to inform clinical decisions
- Excellent communication, adaptability and teamwork
- Flexibility to work the hours required to fulfil the role and the requirements of the Academy Performance Therapies Team
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (sports medicine, MSK, S&C, etc.)
