We are looking for a part-time Silver Specialist to join our friendly and hardworking team based in our flagship Cambridge Saleroom (CB1 7EA). We are looking for someone who can work from 21 hours to 28 hours per week.
We have been in business in Cambridgeshire for nearly 200 years. We are a privately owned, independent partnership and make buying, selling and taking professional advice easy, enjoyable and rewarding. We started life as cattle auctioneers back in 1825 and today we have six offices across the region offering advice on property, land, farms, fine art, tractors and steam engines, as well as hosting regular auctions for all of these divisions. The Cheffins Fine Art team is one of the leading providers of art, antique and design auction services in the UK.
From established collectors to new entrants into the fine art world, our fine art sales team hosts a wide range of buyers and sellers throughout the year. We offer excellent salary and benefit packages, career progression opportunities and support for professional qualifications.
What will you be doing?
- Proactively sourcing, valuing and cataloguing goods for sale and conducting other professional valuations as required, along with general department and sale specific administration.
- Main Purpose / Scope of the role:
- Proactively source goods for sale and when talking to/visiting clients be aware of opportunities for other departments also.
- Cataloguing and photographing goods for sale (print quality images are taken by our professional photographer).
- Provide accurate valuations for sale or other professional purposes.
- Establish new and maintain existing client relationships.
- Monitor and respond to electronic valuation enquiries.
- Work collaboratively to produce industry-leading sale catalogues.
- Continue to grow and expand knowledge of specialist subject.
- Assist in the organisation and running of valuation and consignment days in Cambridge, London and around the region.
- Collaborate with the Head of Jewellery to develop and grow the wider department.
What will it take to be successful?
- Ability to accurately catalogue, authenticate and value silver, and ideally with some knowledge of watches and/or jewellery - other areas of knowledge may be advantageous.
- An ability to deal with clients courteously and professionally.
- Strong organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A full driving license and use of own vehicle which is insured for business use.
