Role overview
The successful candidate will be responsible for scoping, integrating, developing and delivering all electrical machines (50kW to 400kW) within the Cheesecake Energy product range. Working with cross-functional teams to conceptualise, develop, and refine designs using advanced CAD software and engineering modelling tools. Responsible for enhancing the integration of all Synchronous and Asynchronous electrical machines to meet all performance, safety, and business criteria.
Role responsibilities
- Design, Development and Innovation: Lead the development and integration of all electrical machines with the other sub-systems, ensuring compatibility (e.g. motor installation, coupling, cooling, lubrication, controls, electrical input/output). Serve as the technical point of contact, and subject matter expert, for electrical machine integration, providing expertise on power unit systems, calibration, and control strategies. Collaborate with the product development team to ensure designs meet all functional, performance and cost criteria.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive testing and validation plans for electrical machine integration. Monitor and analyze test data to ensure compliance with performance, safety, and regulatory standards. Identify and resolve integration issues, working closely with design and testing teams to implement solutions.
- Technical Documentation and Compliance: Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including technical drawings, specifications, bill of materials (BOM), and design change orders. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Assist in the development and maintenance of design guidelines, best practices, and standard operating procedures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with manufacturing, quality, and marketing teams to ensure cohesive and integrated product development. Provide technical support and guidance to other team members, stakeholders, and external partners as needed.
- Manufacturability and Cost Optimisation: Work with suppliers and supply chain teams to ensure designs are optimized for integration, assembly, and cost-effectiveness. Evaluate materials, processes, and suppliers to ensure optimal design solutions that meet budgetary, performance and quality requirements.
- Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in design, processes, tools, and methods to enhance productivity and quality.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical powertrain design & integration, within the automotive, energy, aerospace or industrial sectors.
- Design knowledge of both synchronous and asynchronous electrical machines.
- Experience in the 50kW to 500kW range would be an advantage.
- Proficiency in using CAD software and electrical machine design and simulation tools.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation of design concepts.
- Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices in product design and engineering.
- Accountability of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for this skill area is desirable.
