Full-time role leading the UK launch of a new prescription medicine in Endocrinology for our client.

Hybrid role – NHS field-based & remote.

UK-wide focus, with a primary emphasis on NHS England.

We are looking for a highly driven, self-starting Business Development Director with proven success in UK pharmaceutical sales, formulary access, and market access within NHS England.

This role is only for candidates who have at least 8 years of experience in UK pharmaceutical industry sales and market access , with a demonstrable track record of securing formulary positions and launching prescription medicines.

Please Note: This role specifically requires experience in prescription medicine sales within the UK pharmaceutical industry. Unfortunately, experience in software, equipment, or medical devices does not align with the role’s requirements.

The Role

As Business Development Director , you will:

  1. Work full-time to take full ownership of driving market access and sales growth for a new Endocrinology brand.
  2. Work autonomously to engage NHS stakeholders across different channels, aligning with NHS priorities.
  3. Lead high-impact engagements with NHS Medicine Management and decision-makers to secure formulary positions.
  4. Engage with a range of customers, including hospital specialists, medicines management teams, and primary care HCPs.
  5. Drive implementation in key accounts and support formulary inclusion where required, ensuring strong pull-through post-approval.
  6. Develop & execute commercial strategies that accelerate brand uptake.
  7. Identify & prioritise ICS accounts, ensuring alignment with NHS England’s evolving landscape.
  8. Leverage market intelligence & business insights to shape commercial strategies.
  9. Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and outsourced contractors to maximise impact.
  10. A self-starter who thrives on autonomy and is proactive in driving results.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum 8 years of pharmaceutical industry experience , with a strong focus on sales, market access, and formulary success in NHS England.

Proven track record of prescription medicine sales success , securing formulary positions, and leading brand launches.

ABPI qualification is essential (applications without ABPI will not be considered).

Deep understanding of the NHS structure , including ICS, Medicine Management, and funding streams.

Strong negotiation & influencing skills , with the ability to connect across NHS stakeholders.

Ability to engage a broad range of customers , from hospital specialists to primary care teams, ensuring all key decision-makers are involved in driving brand adoption.

Hybrid working: You will be expected to spend time engaging HCPs in the field while also working remotely.

A full UK driving licence is required.
