Cheeky Studio is a playful, design-led studio based in London. From hands-on workshops and tufting projects to community events and exhibitions, we bring people together through colour, craft and bold ideas. We’re looking for a fun, creative and super-positive part-time member to join our small Cheeky team! We’d love to meet someone who is passionate about textiles and design, enjoys working with people and brings plenty of Cheeky energy. We believe in experimenting, sharing ideas and bringing imagination to life. Together, we’d love to explore new possibilities and make exciting things happen.
You’ll lead our hands-on tufting workshops, contribute to in-house textile design and product development, and take part in tufting projects and rug making.
Location: Cheeky Studio, Hackney Wick, London E3 2JG
Contract: Permanent, part-time (3-month probationary period)
Days: Saturdays and Sundays
Hours: 10 am to 5 pm, 12 paid hours per week
Break: 1 to 2 pm, unpaid
Pay: £13 per hour, plus statutory paid holiday entitlement
Additional hours: Occasional weekday shifts, agreed in advance
Key responsibilities:
- Prepare, set up and, once trained, lead hands-on tufting workshops
- Guide and support participants in a welcoming and encouraging manner
- Contribute to in-house textile design and product development, including knitting and crochet designs, samples and kits
- Take part in creative tufting projects and rug making
- Contribute ideas for future workshops, products and collaborations
- Help maintain a tidy workspace and organise materials and equipment
- Follow all studio health, safety and equipment-use procedures
- Willingness to learn tufting, complete our in-house training and lead workshops confidently once trained
- Confidence communicating with and supporting workshop participants
- Strong practical skills in knitting, crochet or both, with the ability to develop original patterns, samples and kits
- A portfolio or examples demonstrating relevant textile or design work
- A reliable and organised approach, with the ability to work independently and take responsibility during weekend shifts
- Previous experience assisting with or leading creative workshops
- A qualification in Textile Design or a related discipline
- Experience in textile product development or small-scale production
- Experience writing clear patterns or instructions for beginners
- Experience in shared studios, exhibitions or community arts settings
- A strong sense of colour and materials, and an eye for well-finished work
Previous tufting experience is not required, as full paid training will be provided. You’ll be expected to follow all studio safety procedures. If this sounds like you but you don’t tick every box, we’d still love to hear from you.
