Company Description

We’re Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day. We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers. Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale.

If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact. With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.

About the team

You'll join a Design org of over 30 specialists spanning Product Design, Research, Content, and Technical Writing. Design at Checkout is an AI-native organization — AI is baked into our end-to-end process, and we've led transformational AI work in the recent past. This role sits within Product Design, dedicated to a new, high-growth product area we're building from the ground up. Reporting to a Senior Director of Product Design, you'll work from our London office 3 days a week in a hybrid capacity.

The role

You'll be the individual contributor design lead for a nascent product area — a near zero-to-one space where you define the direction, not follow a roadmap. You'll lead through craft rather than hierarchy, thrive with few guardrails, and also pick up high-priority work across adjacent domains while the new area matures.

What you'll do

  • Own design vision, strategy and execution for a new product area, from discovery to launch.
  • Partner as an equal with Product and Engineering leadership, and advocate for users in senior forums.
  • Ship high-craft, mobile-first experiences on native iOS and Android, grounded in research and data.
  • Set the quality bar, mentor others, and contribute to our global design system.

What success looks like

  • A clear design vision and strategy is set for the area, trusted by Product and Engineering leadership.
  • Foundational, mobile-first experiences ship from zero-to-one — with at least one major initiative delivered end-to-end and measurable impact.
  • You're the go-to design expert for the area, and peers treat your craft as the bar.

What you'll bring

Research shows that some people are less likely to apply for a role unless they meet every requirement. If you're excited about this role and meet most of what's below, we'd love to hear from you — we're most interested in how you think, build, and navigate relationships and ambiguity.

  • Staff- or Principal-level design craft, delivered autonomously and end-to-end.
  • A track record of taking products from zero-to-one in ambiguous, fast-moving spaces.
  • Ownership of complex domains, partnering closely with Product and Engineering.
  • Experience shipping native mobile (iOS and Android) experiences.
  • Decisions grounded in research and data, with advanced Figma and design-systems fluency.
  • Strategic presence with senior stakeholders, and fluency bringing AI into your design workflow.

Nice to have

  • Experience in payments, fintech, SaaS or e-commerce, ideally B2B.
  • Exposure to high-growth startups or incubator / accelerator programs.
  • Interest in moving into people leadership as the area scales.
