This role owns one of Checkout.com's most strategic bets: becoming the system of record for payment credentials, independent of acquiring. You will lead Vault and Forward API – the core infrastructure that enables PSP-agnostic architectures, network-token-first strategies, and the shift toward PAN-less commerce. This is a mini-GM role spanning product strategy, infrastructure, and commercial ownership.

What You'll Own

  • Strategy & Commercial Ownership
    • Define and drive a 12–36 month strategy for Vault and Forward API
    • Own pricing, packaging, and revenue expansion (including standalone Vault deals)
    • Build and defend investment cases (cost‑to‑serve, scheme fees, unit economics)
    • Partner with Sales and Solutions to win enterprise, multi‑PSP merchants
  • Vault: Credential Platform
    • Define core primitives: instruments, customers, tokens, multi‑instrument linking, metadata
    • Own PCI DSS 4.x posture and translate compliance into merchant value
    • Ensure first‑class integration with network tokens and account updater services
    • Drive interoperability with wallets, Flow, and broader Checkout.com surfaces
  • Forward API: Programmable Infrastructure
    • Own credential forwarding: source resolution, request construction, encryption, token injection, and response handling
    • Expand beyond fallback use cases (fraud tools, 3DS, loyalty, partner migrations)
    • Ensure reliability, latency, and observability on the critical payment path
    • Build debugging and visibility tools for developers
  • Developer Experience
    • Own the public API surface across Vault and Forward
    • Drive SDKs, documentation, and reference architectures
    • Reduce integration time from months to days
  • Cross‑Functional Leadership
    • Partner with Engineering to deliver reliably at scale
    • Align with Risk, Compliance, and Legal on PCI scope, regulation, and scheme changes
    • Work across Authentication, Routing, and other product teams to ensure seamless credential flows

What You'll Bring

  • Product & Technical Depth
    • 5+ years in product management, including 3+ years in payments
    • Experience building developer‑facing APIs (REST, webhooks, idempotency, error design)
    • Strong technical fluency (OAuth, mTLS, encryption, system design trade-offs)
  • Payments Expertise
    • Deep understanding of the card stack (auth, capture, disputes, scheme economics)
    • Strong grasp of tokenisation (network, PSP, device‑based)
    • Familiarity with PCI DSS (ideally v4.x) and scope reduction
    • Experience with scheme programs (VTS, MDES, account updater)
  • Commercial & Execution Strength
    • Ability to own P&L inputs and pricing strategy
    • Data‑driven decision making with clear success metrics
    • Comfortable operating across product, engineering, sales, and compliance

How You Work

  • Customer‑obsessed with real merchant empathy
  • Clear communicator across technical and non‑technical audiences
  • High ownership with strong cross‑functional collaboration

Bonus

  • Experience building PSP‑agnostic vaults or forwarding layers
  • Exposure to regulated markets (EU, UAE, India, Brazil)
  • Familiarity with emerging models (e.g. agentic commerce)
  • Industry presence (writing, speaking, or scheme participation)
