Company Description

We’re Checkout.com. You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day. We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers. Whether you want to book a holiday, order food, renew a subscription, or check out online, there’s a good chance our tech powers the payments behind the scenes. Our platform helps the most ambitious businesses deliver effortless digital experiences, at scale. If you want to do career-defining work, you’ve come to the right place. We move fast, think globally, and believe great teams are built by hiring exceptional people with conviction, curiosity, and the desire to make an impact. With 20 offices across six continents and London as our HQ, we’re shaping the future of fintech – and we’re just getting started.

THE ROLE

We are looking for a skilled, tech-savvy Legal Operations Specialist to join our fast-paced legal team. As a core member of the department within a leading payment processing company, you will help drive operational excellence, scale our legal tech stack, and streamline workflows. The ideal candidate helps bridge the gap between legal expertise, technology, and data-driven efficiency. You will be responsible for managing our complex contract ecosystems, optimising team collaboration tools, and leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to design modern, automated legal processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Tech Stack & Automation Strategy: Support the administration, integration, and continuous improvement of our legal technology tools, with a heavy emphasis on Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) systems.
  • Atlassian Ecosystem: Support the legal department's Jira infrastructure. This includes assisting with the design, maintenance, and optimisation of workflows in Jira Service Management (JSM) for legal intake, helping manage Jira Spaces, and building out a comprehensive, user-friendly knowledge base in Confluence.
  • AI & Process Engineering: Proactively identify opportunities to embed AI and machine learning tools into everyday legal operations, supporting the development and implementation of AI-driven efficiencies (e.g., automated contract review, AI search optimisation, legal operations chatbots, and automated triaging) to help reduce cycle times.
  • Workflow Optimisation: Evaluate existing legal processes, identify bottlenecks in the payment processing legal pipeline (e.g., merchant agreements, vendor contracts, regulatory tracking), and engineer streamlined, scalable workflows.
  • Data Analytics & Reporting: Design dashboards and generate metrics within Jira and CLM tools to track legal spend, turnaround times, contract volumes, and team capacity. Present actionable insights to legal leadership.
  • Vendor & Resource Support: Help manage relationships with legal tech vendors (e.g. Brightflag) and ensure the team is maximising the value of industry resources (e.g., CLOC, ACC).

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Legal Operations, ideally within a fintech, payment processing, or highly regulated corporate environment.
  • Experience working with enterprise CLM systems (e.g., Ironclad, LinkSquares, Icertis, or Conga), including template building and workflow routing.
  • Good working knowledge of Jira, specifically designing custom workflows, queues, and SLAs in JSM, helping manage Jira Spaces, and structuring documentation in Confluence.
  • Experience using generative AI tools, prompt engineering, or AI-backed legal tech features to build efficiencies, automate repetitive tasks, and analyse legal data.
  • General understanding of the legal operational challenges unique to payment processing, financial services, or tech companies.

Preferred Skills & Core Competencies

  • Tech-Forward Mindset: Instead of simply using tools, look for ways to make them talk to each other. Experience with integrations (APIs, Zapier) is a massive plus.
  • Problem-Solving & Agility: Ability to thrive in a high-volume, rapidly changing corporate environment.
  • Project Management: Strong organisational skills with a proven ability to manage and support multiple tech implementation projects simultaneously (PRINCE2 qualification a plus, but not necessary).
  • Collaboration & Communication: Exceptional ability to translate complex technical or legal requirements into clear, user-friendly processes for cross-functional stakeholders such as Product, Sales and Compliance.
