Job Description
The role
Reporting into the Global Head of Enterprise Risk, the Director, Prudential Risk will set our governance framework and provide overall risk oversight for our prudential risk management capabilities globally.
This includes identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating risks related to capital adequacy, liquidity, market risk, credit risk, and other areas critical to the company\’s financial stability and regulatory compliance.
How you’ll make an impact
- Lead efforts to manage Checkout’s Prudential Risks including capital, counterparty credit, market, and liquidity through the implementation of sound policies and oversight of controls.
- Evolve and monitor risk appetite metrics for liquidity, market, counterparty credit, and capital risks.
- Monitor and challenge the financial risk profile and capital adequacy frameworks developed by the Treasury Department.
- Develop scenarios for stress testing and challenge the stress testing results on the impact of potential financial risk events presented by the Treasury department.
- Serve as the primary second line liaison with regulatory authorities on prudential risk-related matters.
- Provide regular risk reporting and recommendations to executive management and legal entity boards.
- Collaborate with other teams, such as Finance, Treasury, and Financial Partnerships to coordinate and perform second line oversight including policy guidance.
- Perform ad hoc analysis of the effects of changes in business structure, new products, market events, and regulatory developments on Checkout’s prudential risks.
Qualifications
What we’re looking for
- 10+ years of experience in prudential risk management, within the financial services or fintech industry.
- Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, and other relevant banking/fintech regulations such as PSD 3 and equivalent regulations globally.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective risk management frameworks and controls.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate complex risk data into actionable insights.
- Comfortable working in a fluid, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities in line with the demands of the business strategy.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in the use of risk management software and data analysis tools.
- Experience overseeing Prudential Risks including working with finance on default models and loss provisioning.
- Bachelor\’s degree in finance, economics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in a payments company preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a fast-paced, innovative fintech environment.
- A track record of delivery on complex projects, using strong relationship building skills and ability to influence and work cross-functionally.
- Experience working for a global organization and leading initiatives with colleagues across multiple time zones.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to convey complex ideas succinctly to various audiences.
- Analytical leader, skilled at using metrics and analytics to make recommendations and drive decisions.
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies and their risk implications.
- Project management skills and the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
- Certification in risk management (e.g., FRM, CRM, PRM).
