Job Description
This is a high-impact leadership role within our core Finance team in London, designed for a Finance Transformation leader who wants to shape the backbone of our financial infrastructure. As a Senior Manager of Finance Transformation, you will be the primary Finance Lead responsible for the Accounting Logic, Business Process, and Integrity Controls of our Accounting Rules Engine and Sub-ledger implementation. This role comes at a pivotal time as Checkout transforms the Financial Platform to power our future growth. Partnering closely with Product and Engineering, you will ensure our sub-ledger environment provides a robust, auditable foundation—building the deep financial trust and transparency required to support Checkout’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting Rules Engine Design: Lead the definition and maintenance of the accounting rules engine. You will translate business products and events into precise double-entry accounting logic (IFRS) to ensure automated, real-time posting to the ledger.
- Sub-ledger Implementation: Drive the business adoption of the sub-ledger, ensuring it seamlessly integrates with upstream product systems and downstream General Ledger (GL) reporting and controls.
- Business Process Migration: Lead the migration of legacy business processes into the new system architecture, ensuring data integrity, historical continuity, and seamless transition of the month-end close.
- Process Design & Optimisation: Scrutinise existing "as-is" processes to identify inefficiencies. You will design scalable "to-be" workflows that leverage data products to drive an accelerated, "zero-touch" financial close.
- Strategic Stakeholder Management: Act as the bridge between Finance, Engineering, and Product teams to ensure the Accounting Rules Engine reflects the commercial reality of our products.
- Governance & Control Oversight: Embed robust automated controls within the sub-ledger framework, maintaining strict compliance with internal policies and international accounting standards (IFRS).
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong Accounting Skillset: A professional accounting qualification (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent) is mandatory. You must have a "first-principles" understanding of accounting to drive the business requirements for accounting rules.
- Sub-ledger & Rules Engine Expertise: Proven experience in implementing or managing a sub-ledger (e.g., Oracle FAH, SAP FPSL, or proprietary fintech engines). You must understand how to map high-volume transactional data to accounting journals.
- Complex Migrations: Demonstrable experience leading the migration of financial data and business processes from legacy systems to modern cloud-based financial platforms.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to communicate effectively with engineers. While you don't need to code, you should be comfortable discussing data schemas, API integrations, and system logic.
- Proven Transformation Delivery: Experience leading finance change in a fast-paced environment (Fintech or Payments preferred).
- Leadership & Influence: Proven track record of managing cross-functional project teams and influencing senior stakeholders on technical system decisions.
- Data Analysis (Advantageous): Proficiency in SQL is highly desirable to assist in data mapping and reconciliation during the migration phase.
