Role: Quality Engineer

Salary Range: £42,000–£47,000 + benefits
About the Role
We are recruiting for a Quality Engineer to join a growing quality team at an aerospace components manufacturing business based in Derby.
The company manufactures high-precision components for the aerospace sector, supplying into some of the industry's most demanding programmes, and quality sits at the very heart of everything they do.
This role offers genuine scope for progression, with a clear development pathway towards Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager level as the team and business continue to grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day operation of the quality function within a precision aerospace manufacturing environment
- Carry out first article inspections (FAI) and support production part approval processes (PPAP)
- Raise, manage and close non-conformance reports (NCRs), driving corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Lead root cause analysis and support 8D problem-solving with production and engineering teams
- Conduct internal audits against AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Interpret aerospace engineering drawings and specifications, including GD&T
- Work closely with machining, inspection and production teams to embed a right-first-time culture
- Support customer and third-party audits, including customer-specific requirements
- Maintain accurate quality records and documentation in line with aerospace traceability requirements
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce scrap, rework and cost of poor quality
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in a quality engineering role, ideally within aerospace, precision engineering or another highly regulated manufacturing sector
- Strong knowledge of AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems
- Experience with inspection equipment and techniques, including CMM programming and operation (desirable)
- The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
- Confident in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, fishbone)
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A proactive, improvement-focused mindset with the ambition to progress into a leadership role
