The Athenaeum Hotel is a historic full-service hotel with 150 rooms for guests, open from late April through October for conferences and events. The hotel operates fully during the Chautauqua Institution summer season, from late June through late August.

Compensation: Compensation for this position starts at $17.00 per hour, with potential earnings up to $19.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome each hotel guest with energy and positivity.
  • Serve as an information centre by demonstrating knowledge of Chautauqua Institution and the historic Athenaeum Hotel.
  • Check guests in/out of the hotel and print tickets for in-house guests.
  • Sell hotel rooms and make reservations using established procedures.
  • Address guest requests and concerns immediately with a professional attitude.
  • Communicate effectively with management, colleagues, and other departments about guest needs.
  • Provide safety and security for the hotel and its guests.
  • Follow hotel key control procedures at all times.
  • Operate POS system for reservations, purchases, and payments.
  • Responsible for cash drawer and daily reconciliation.
  • Ensure accurate records of sales transactions and refunds.
  • Maintain knowledge of hotel equipment used at the front desk.
  • Keep workstation clean and perform light housekeeping duties as assigned.

Schedule: Flexible schedules are available for seasonal employment during summer operations, typically including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Schedules are usually eight-hour shifts with start times between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., totalling 16-40 hours per week.

Housing: No employer-provided housing is available for this position. Applicants should secure independent housing or reside within a commutable distance.
