This role is a key management position within Chaucer's Exposure Management Team.
The primary objective of the role is to deliver the analysis, use, and communication of the modelled Chaucer catastrophe portfolio to ensure catastrophe portfolio accumulation is understood and optimised. Working closely with all functions across Exposure Management, the role involves delivering insightful analytics of Chaucer's portfolio internally and externally, ensuring alignment to the overall Chaucer strategy. The role holder is expected to have a strong Cat Modelling and statistics background, with experience in understanding Insurance and Reinsurance structures and terms. Key components of the role are Outwards Reinsurance modelling (netting down of the portfolio) and Net portfolio blueprint (pro forma) management. The scope of the role includes heavy interaction with multiple teams and Senior stakeholders across the company, including Underwriting, Outwards Reinsurance Purchasing, and all Actuarial functions, giving the role holder a high profile from day one. Externally, the role includes overseeing and supporting all Regulatory return work, ensuring accuracy and operational efficiency.
The role will also participate in the wider functions of the Exposure Management Team as well as the overall Risk Function.
Main duties
- Manage and deliver insightful portfolio analysis and reporting to internal stakeholders, communicating portfolio composition changes within Exposure Management and across the business.
- Drive change through value-added and influential analytics and overall portfolio optimisation.
- Lead the development and management of all Portfolio stochastic and deterministic cat appetites, for both Nat and Non-Nat Cat.
- Oversee Outwards Reinsurance netting down, including design of modelling and net position movement analysis.
- Lead the Exposure Management input for calculating the Net position impact of alternative Outwards Reinsurance options in the lead up to the 01/01 ORI purchase period.
- Support in the production of any portfolio outputs for modelling provided to Outwards Reinsurers.
- Have overall central responsibility for the production of Group-level cat Net blueprints to support strategy and planning, working with the catastrophe modelling teams, Underwriting Management and Business Planning teams.
- Work with the business on cat portfolio output analytics use and accessibility, improving dashboards where possible, in particular in conjunction with Capital Modelling and Actuarial Pricing teams.
- Provide portfolio and financial modelling insight as part of model and system reviews.
- Oversee the portfolio post-cat event response and ensure coordination with the Portfolio Manager and Senior Analysts for their respective classes.
- Support the catastrophe research team in View of Risk validation projects, largely from a cat analytics view, providing holistic view point that ensures underwriting and actuarial are considered, as well as catalogues.
- Look to improve processes to enhance the overall operational efficiency of the team.
- Oversee all Exposure Management Regulatory returns.
- Management of the Analytics and Regulatory sub team.
- Ensure that the team is suitably resourced, experienced and developing, so that all tasks are completed and the expertise of the team is increasing.

- Participate in the joint activities of the Exposure Management Team.
- From time to time take part in relevant projects within Exposure Management or throughout the wider business.
- Keep up-to-date with new science and technological developments in the Catastrophe Management field, and also relevant news and developments within the (re)insurance market itself.
- Provide technical support within your team, the wider Exposure Management team and the wider Chaucer business.
- Participate in the Catastrophe Underwriting Group if required.
- Participate in the management team of Exposure Management.

- Experience within Exposure Management or Catastrophe Modelling or Actuarial Pricing
- Capital Modelling teams

- Desirable - Previous experience contributing to a portfolio analytics team, or equivalent

- Experience with using and interpreting outputs from simulation platforms
- Proficient in using at least one vendor catastrophe platform (RMS preferred)
- Good knowledge of the build and financial output of catastrophe models
- High level understanding of insurance and reinsurance financial terms
- SQL programming skills, in particular with a focus on cat model output analysis and
manipulation - Advanced excel
- High level numeracy skills with a detailed understanding of probability and statistical
methodologies - Ability to explain complex statistical problem
