Working within the Lonham Group Ltd as a Senior Underwriter for Marine Cargo and Freight Liability business. This role offers flexibility in location within the UK, as we manage a countrywide book of business. We welcome applications from candidates based in any region.
Main duties
- Develop existing broker relations to maintain and expand current book of business
- Generate new business opportunities in line with Lonham growth strategy
- Gain knowledge of and articulate Lonham client proposition
- Underwrite, review new and renewal risks, considering risk type, cargo nature, limits, voyages, stock locations, turnover, rating guidelines, and claims experience
- Produce and distribute policy documentation
- Input and maintain accurate records within the Underwriting and Accounts systems; capture relevant data for monitoring and analysis
- Monitor risks due for renewal
- Prepare reports and statistical information as required by Underwriters
- Liaise with brokers and policyholders to obtain information, provide quotes, and produce insurance documentation; chase for outstanding premiums, adjustments, and declarations
- Raise invoices/credits as needed according to policy wording
- Collaborate with other departments within Lonham and Chaucer
- Build and maintain good relationships with brokers and clients
- Attend training sessions and meetings as required
Regulatory responsibilities
- Sanction check all new and existing customers
- Adhere to FCA rules regarding insurance premiums
- Issue policy documentation within industry deadlines
- Promptly identify, record, and refer customer complaints
- Uphold principles of Treating Customers Fairly with agents and service providers
- Write policies within Chaucer/Lloyds guidelines
Our requirements
Relevant experience
- Essential: Proven underwriting experience with good knowledge of Cargo and Freight Liability insurance; ability to develop strong client relationships
Technical skills
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel or equivalents)
Education & Experience
- Essential: Minimum of 5 GCSE passes (Grade C or 5), including Maths and English
- Desirable: A.C.I.I. qualification or part-qualified
- Experience with AI technologies such as co-pilot or similar
