ROLE SUMMARY

This role will assist in the day-to-day running of the Compliance Function, whose responsibilities include:

  • Provision of compliance advisory services to the Group
  • Compliance assurance monitoring of all business units
  • Reporting of regulatory deadlines, compliance timetables and distribution of regulatory information and news as appropriate throughout the business
  • Monitoring & oversight of staff training requirements
  • Management of countering financial crime procedures (sanctions, anti-money laundering and anti-bribery and corruption)
  • Maintaining compliance records, registers and files
  • Liaising effectively and building relationships with all areas of the business and external regulators
  • To undertake other appropriate tasks and projects within the Legal and Regulatory department as required

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To contribute to the management and monitoring of effective, risk-based and commercially pragmatic compliance by all syndicates managed by Chaucer Syndicates Limited (CSL), with regard to UK regulations (PRA and FCA), Lloyd’s, overseas and EU insurance regulations, and international anti-financial crime requirements
  • To provide timely & accurate compliance, regulatory & financial crime advice to the business
  • To conduct regular compliance monitoring of business activities, and to produce recommendations & reports on findings
  • To ensure that CSL meets all regulatory and other deadlines, including alerting and reminding other business areas where required
  • To assist in the management of all financial crime matters through the Head of Compliance
  • To liaise effectively and build relationships with all areas of the business and external regulators
  • To complete regulatory applications, returns and forms as required, and maintain compliance records and files
  • To maintain and document appropriate compliance systems and procedures
  • To assist in the resolution of customer complaints and ensure accurate reporting of complaints to Lloyd’s and other regulatory authorities as appropriate
  • To assist in the provision of training and advice on regulatory and other compliance-related matters as appropriate to all levels of the business
  • To manage and monitor compliance with training requirements
  • To conduct a weekly review of output from third party sanctions screening software
  • To assist in promoting the Compliance function as an added value to the business through training programmes, inductions, external presentations, intranet communications and day to day interaction with staff
  • To provide management information for syndicate and board committee reports
  • To maintain communication with Lloyd’s for business queries where required, and ensure market updates are communicated in a timely manner to the business
  • To undertake other appropriate tasks and participate in other projects within the Risk Department as may be required

REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To advise and educate all CSL staff on their Conduct Risk obligations and their duties owed to CSL customers and to co-ordinate the maintenance of policies and procedures which pay due regard to the interests and fair treatment of CSL customers

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Essential: Relevant compliance assistant experience
  • Desirable: Experience of the insurance industry

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Essential: Intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Desirable: Good working understanding of Lloyd’s and/or overseas regulatory regimes. Good working understanding of the UK Regulatory regimes (PRA / FCA).

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Desirable: 3 A Levels or equivalent
  • Degree/ACII or equivalent
